Rams SURVIVE Bears comeback bid with go-ahead FG in OT | Caleb Williams' heroics not enough
The Chicago Bears are one win away from their first NFC Championship Game appearance in 15 years, and they have sophomore sensation Caleb Williams to thank. Today at 5:30 p.m. CT, the Bears (11-6) host the Los Angeles Rams (12-5) at Soldier Field in what promises to be one of the most anticipated playoff matchups of the season, according to FOX Sports.
Williams' Historic Wild Card Performance
The Bears arrive riding momentum from one of the most improbable victories in franchise history. During last week's Wild Card showdown against the rival Packers, Chicago executed the third-largest fourth-quarter comeback in NFL history, erasing a 15-point deficit in the final period. Yahoo Sports reports that Williams threw for more yardage (184) in the fourth quarter than in the first three quarters combined (177).
His 25-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Moore put Chicago ahead 31-27 with 1:43 remaining, securing the franchise's first playoff win in 15 years and the largest postseason comeback in Bears history.
Williams' Breakout Season
Caleb Williams has passed for 3,942 yards this season, completing 58.1% of his throws with 27 touchdowns and just seven interceptions across 17 games. Under first-year head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears offense has transformed into one of the league's most explosive units, with Williams orchestrating seven comeback victories throughout the campaign.
The Rams Present a Formidable Challenge
According to CBS Sports, Los Angeles features MVP favorite Matthew Stafford leading the NFL's best scoring offense — the only team averaging more than 30 points per game. The Rams also boast NFL receptions leader Puka Nacua and a top-10 scoring defense allowing just 20.9 points per game.
ESPN's Ryan Clark Has Seen Enough
On ESPN's First Take, Ryan Clark delivered a passionate defense of Williams: "When do we stop doubting Caleb Williams?" Sports Illustrated notes that Clark isn't just picking Chicago to win — he's crowning their quarterback as the future of the franchise.
A City's Dreams on the Line
The Chicago Bears haven't reached the NFC Championship Game since 2011. Today, behind their dynamic young quarterback and an electrified Soldier Field crowd, they have their best chance in over a decade to advance. The winner will face either the Seattle Seahawks or San Francisco 49ers in the conference championship.
