Kitsap County will temporarily shut down the Silverdale Recycling and Garbage Facility beginning September 21, 2026, launching an intensive six-month civil construction phase that will completely halt public operations at the central drop-off hub through April 1, 2027.
During active construction, the removal of retaining walls and deep utility trenching will render interior access roads impassable to non-construction traffic.
In addition to the finger-wall recycling perimeter, the project constructs a fourth enclosed municipal solid waste receiving shed, significantly expanding the facility's peak throughput.
Located at 9300 Barney White Road in West Bremerton, Olympic View is the county's flagship waste management installation.
To bridge this logistical gap, county solid waste coordinators are securing municipal permits for recurring, pop-up recycling events stationed at parking lots and public works yards throughout the Silverdale and Tracyton communities.
Kitsap County will temporarily close the Silverdale Recycling and Garbage Facility from September 21 through April 1 for a $15 million civil overhaul, diverting self-haul traffic to Olympic View in Bremerton.
