Puget Sound Energy Secures $40.2 Million Federal Grant for $80.4 Million Grid Modernization With $21 Million Dedicated to Kitsap County

Department of Energy has awarded Puget Sound Energy a $40.2 million competitive federal grant to modernise electrical transmission infrastructure across Western Washington, allocating more than $21 million directly to high-voltage capital projects in Kitsap County.

Targeted Kitsap Upgrades Focus on South Bremerton and Long Lake Corridors More than a quarter of the entire eighty-million-dollar regional investment will concentrate specifically inside Kitsap County, where transmission lines have reached operational limits during peak seasonal weather events.

Industrial dry-dock facilities require consistent, high-capacity electrical power to operate heavy crane systems, ventilation equipment, industrial welding bays, and continuous shipboard cooling pumps.

In Western Washington, where maritime weather patterns frequently bring brisk coastal winds and cool ambient temperatures, static ratings severely underutilize the true physical capacity of copper and aluminum conductors.

They maintain that a county public utility district would provide democratic local control and lower administrative overhead.
