Morning Commute Disrupted After Pickup Truck Destroys Bellevue Utility Pole

A single-vehicle accident early Thursday morning resulted in injuries and significant infrastructure damage at one of Bellevue’s busiest intersections.

The presence of the truck in the culvert further complicated the initial investigation, as recovery vehicles needed to ensure the truck could be towed without further destabilizing the electrical equipment overhead.

Analysis of the intersection at Old Hickory Boulevard and Highway 100 shows it to be a high-traffic zone where high-speed limits on the highway meet the branching traffic of the boulevard.

To fix this, crews must bring in specialized "bucket trucks" and cranes to hold the lines in place while a new hole is augured and a fresh timber pole is dropped.

Dragging a car out of a culvert can cause additional environmental damage or hit underground utilities.
