Residents in West Seattle are reporting a spike in coyote activity across disparate neighborhoods, with new sightings confirmed in both the Seaview and Puget Ridge areas this July.
A resident identified as KH photographed a coyote near the intersection of 16th Avenue Southwest and Southwest Holly Street at approximately 6:30 AM on a recent Monday.
The fact that the Seaview sighting occurred in broad daylight at 5:50 PM further complicates the traditional advice of keeping pets inside only at night.
Hazing is a technique recommended by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to maintain the animal’s natural fear of humans.
The risk here is constant but often predictable, centered on the early morning hours when human activity is low.
New coyote sightings in West Seattle's Seaview and Puget Ridge neighborhoods prompt urgent pet safety warnings following a confirmed domestic cat kill.
