NO ONE SITS ON THE THRONE Game of Thrones Season 8 ENDING ⚔️
Winter is coming — again. Tonight at 10 PM ET, HBO unveils "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," the third live-action series in George R.R. Martin's sprawling A Song of Ice and Fire universe. According to series information, this prequel to "Game of Thrones" adapts Martin's beloved Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, set approximately a century before the events of the original series.
Meet Dunk and Egg
The series stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall ("Dunk"), a hedge knight of humble origins, and Dexter Sol Ansell as his clever young squire Aegon Targaryen ("Egg") — yes, that Targaryen. IMDB notes that the adventurous tales follow this unlikely duo as they navigate the political intrigue and dangers of Westeros during the Targaryen dynasty's peak.
Strong Critical Reception
Early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Rotten Tomatoes reports an 87% approval rating from 54 critics, suggesting HBO has another hit on its hands. The series had its world premiere in Berlin on January 13, 2026, coinciding with HBO Max's Germany launch.
A Leaner Westeros Experience
Unlike "Game of Thrones" and "House of the Dragon," this series takes a more intimate approach. According to Screen Rant, the first season consists of just six episodes with shorter runtimes — the premiere runs 42 minutes, with subsequent episodes ranging from 31 to 37 minutes. New episodes will drop weekly through February 22.
Already Renewed for Season 2
HBO's confidence in the project is clear. In November 2025, ahead of the first season premiere, the network renewed "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" for a second season, expected to arrive in 2027. Created by Ira Parker and George R.R. Martin himself, the series represents Martin's most direct involvement in a television adaptation since "Game of Thrones."
How to Watch
The premiere airs Sunday, January 18 at 10:00 PM ET on HBO, with episodes also available to stream simultaneously on HBO Max. For fans who've missed Westeros, the wait ends tonight.
